A Resolution to Condemn Anti-LGBTQ Rhetoric

Transgender children, like all children, deserve love and support to grow, thrive, and participate fully in life—not to be scapegoated by politicians who offer no evidence that their inclusion causes harm, but plenty of distraction from real issues. We need to better address real issues that matter to all Americans, and that includes those who suffer discrimination and persecution.

A message from the Acton Democratic Town Committee Chair Sahana Purohit:

As we reflect on the difficult results of this Presidential Election, I want to remind each of you how much our work matters. Even in challenging times, we have built a community grounded in kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to one another. We are a collective of uncommonly good people who look out for those in need, and together we make great things happen—simply because of who we are.

The road ahead may not be easy, but it’s precisely in times like these that our dedication to each other and our shared values shines the brightest. Our work is far from over, and I am hopeful because I know the strength, resilience, and compassion that we embody. Let’s continue to lift each other up, stay united, and keep pushing forward. Together, we can create lasting change, no matter the obstacles.

08/6/2024 - Harris/Walz 2024!

A message from our Vice Chair Sam Sullivan-Fieldman:

The race is still very tight with the best pollsters like Nate Silver and 538 having it at basically a toss up at the electoral college. That's MUCH better than where we were a month ago where it looked like a near certain Trump victory. But now is not the time for complacency. Harris/Walz needs to win Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire. She has a realistic shot at several additional states, but those additional states are all constituted such that if she wins enough of them to hit 270, she'll have already won the ones I listed. So that's her blue wall.

Our role is to make sure that blue wall holds, unlike 2016. We're talking to people in New Hampshire about canvassing out there. We also need to be making calls and helping in the other blue wall states. The record of the Biden administration and Walz on labor is excellent and that is going to be the most important factor in drawing out the voters we need. There are some signs of trouble in the economy, which will make things more challenging. But the Biden/Harris administration and Walz have good records on helping people through tough times, while the Republicans killed the child tax credit and other measures that lift people out of poverty. Meanwhile, inflation is being caused by corporate greed, even according to the Wall Street Journal, not by Biden's policies. Lina Kahn has helped tackle that problem, but it is a long fight. Harris has refused to capitulate to demands from her big donors to fire Kahn and the party has forced that big donor to back down from that demand and support Harris regardless. And now picking Walz is a signal that she is taking those challenges seriously, as his record there is excellent.

This is a very good sign for the future, but it is now our job to turn that possible future into the real present. Let's GO!"

Let’s win this!!

The organizational meeting of the Acton Democratic Town Committee took place on April 7 where we elected new officers. Please join us in offering a heartfelt welcome to our newly appointed Chair, Sahana Purohit, and Vice-Chair, Sam Fieldman and our deepest gratitude to retiring Chair Ellen Vallade and Vice-Chair Adrian Hancock for their outstanding leadership.

A statement from newly elected Chair Sahana Purohit:

Dear Acton Democrats,

As we embark on this new chapter for the Acton Democratic Town Committee, it is with deep appreciation that I acknowledge the exceptional leadership of our Chair, Ellen Vallade and Vice Chair, Adrian Hancock. Their dedication and guidance over the years have been instrumental in making the Acton Democratic Town Committee the strong and active group it is today in Massachusetts! Their guidance has been consistently sure, steady, and intelligent. Their humor at our monthly meetings has kept us all engaged and motivated. Their leadership has been a true inspiration, and I, along with many others, will miss their presence at the helm.

However, I'm incredibly grateful that both of them will continue to be a part of our team, as my mentors, and offering their invaluable insights. We will continue to benefit from their experience.

I also want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation to all of you. I see so many of you each month at our Sunday, monthly meetings, and your dedication truly inspires me. It's this kind of active participation that makes the ADTC such a force for good in our community.

I also want to acknowledge the incredible work of our current executive team, and I'm especially excited to be working alongside Sam Fieldman, Vice Chair!

As we all know, the ADTC plays a vital role - from hosting informative meetings on key issues to organizing impactful volunteer opportunities - this committee makes a real difference!

Building upon the strong foundation laid by our previous leadership, I envision a committee that's even more inclusive and effective in advocating for Democratic values. As your chair, I believe in fostering a collaborative environment where everyone feels welcome to contribute their ideas and energy. Together, I know we can continue to achieve great things for Acton and the Democratic party.

Sincerely,
Sahana Purohit
